3.1.2.4. Set third-party NS

Important points:

  • Only available for domains whose current registrar is our company.
  • After setting third party NS for the domain, the settings from the third party NS owner's control panel will take effect. Settings from our control panel will not work.
  • Changing NS is only available when DNSSEC is disabled.
  1. Open the "Name servers (NS)" section.
  2. Clear the fields in the "Current NS" block, specify at least two third-party NS names, and click "Change NS":
    • "Add more" — adds additional fields for specifying NS. Use when there are not enough fields to specify all the required NS.
    • "Do not check domain existence on specified NS" — check if domain records exist on the specified NS. Enable if you get the error "Failed to change NS: domain not configured on name server" and want to disable the check.
  3. Wait for the DNS cache to refresh (usually a few hours, maximum 24).

About necessity of NS registration in the registry

In some zones like .COM, .NET, .CC, .TV, .NAME, an error like: "Failed to change NS: Host XXXXXX.XXX is not registered. Before the host can be used as an NS, its owner must register this name in the registry". It means that the domain and the specified NS are served in the same registry and the owner of the NS has not registered it in this registry. For example, if for the domain example.com.ua try to specify NS ns1.example.com and ns2.u.ua not registered in the corresponding registries, then for ns1.example.com there will be no error (the domain zone .COM.UA and the zone NS .COM are served by different registries), and for ns2.u.ua there will be an error (the domain zone .UA and the zone NS .COM.UA are served by the same registry). The owner of the domain u.ua in this case must register the name ns2.u.ua as a host in the registry.
